We suggest that if you are a victim of crime you consult Mornington Legal and Conveyancing as soon as possible to determine what rights you may have, what records you should keep and how you might go about making your claim.
There are three separate aspects to consider, being:
- making a Victim Impact Statement,
- making civil claim against the perpetrator, and/or
- making a claim under the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (‘VOCAT’).
Mornington Legal and Conveyancing can make a claim to VOCAT on your behalf. This is the most usual method by which victims are assisted by us.
The first consultation with Mornington Legal and Conveyancing is free and ongoing costs may be covered by VOCAT.
You may also be entitled to inform a Court of your injury and any loss or damage which you have suffered as a result of the crime which was committed upon you via a Victim Impact Statement. W
here an offence is proven against the offender it is possible to make an Application to a Court by way of Writ or Complaint for a civil action against the offender for compensation. Under certain other circumstances it is possible to make an application under the Crimes Act for compensation.
